Thank God They Cancelled The August 14, 2007 Democratic Presidental Candidates Debate in Reno, Are You Happy Now?

Yes, Leader Reid and Chairman Collins have cancelled the August 7 Democratic presidental candidates debate in Reno. We were so tired of hearing about Fox News Fox News Fox News......the drip by drip water torture is over! Can you believe it, some northern Nevada democrats actually wanted to hear the candidates address western issues in Reno: Screw `em! Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes humor and his views on journalism, freedom of the press and diversity of thought and speech in the newsroom:

Text of Reid/Collins Letter Canceling Debate
Our question to our kind readers: Please view Roger Ailes comments above and read the Reid/Collins letter. Did Ailes really go too far with his Obama joke (was he really calling Obama a terrorist as others have reported or was it more of a dig at Bush?) or was this just a handy excuse for Reid and Collins to end the debate debacle?

Bottom Line:
We can blame this mess on the Nevada State Democratic Party organization for not getting the debate format and details first approved by MoveOn.org. They won't make that mistake again.

  1. Ah well, the carrying on over it was going to hurt us more than any benefit we stood to gain.

Since MoveOn is now running the show in NV (or at least perceived to be running it) I'm thinking I can probably forget about seeing us get a majority of the vote here. Remind me again why I keep bothering to vote???

  3. The following is the text of a letter sent to Fox News from Tom
    Collins and Senator Harry Reid

    Dear Marty,

A month ago, the Nevada Democratic Party entered into a good faith
agreement with FOX News to co-sponsor a presidential debate in
    August.

This was done because the Nevada Democratic Party is reaching out to
new voters and we strongly believe that a Democrat will not win
Nevada unless we find new ways to talk to new people.

To say the least, this was not a popular decision. But it is one
that the Democratic Party stood by. However, comments made last
night by FOX News President Roger Ailes in reference to one of our
presidential candidates went too far. We cannot, as good Democrats,
put our party in a position to defend such comments.

In light of his comments, we have concluded that it is not possible
to hold a Presidential debate that will focus on our candidates and
are therefore canceling our August debate. We take no pleasure in
this, but it is the only course of action.

    Sincerely

    Tom Collins Harry Reid

Chairman, Nevada State Democratic Party U.S. Senator (D-NV)

  4. Pretty soon people just might
    start noticing that Obama isn't
signing on for any roles in this
ongoing soap opera. He did say
he was going to save his "sharp
elbows" for fighting on the issues.
Looks like he's staying the course on that so far.

  5. Yes, Barack Obama seems to be handling the name thing very well, especially compared to how the Clinton campaign handled the Geffen flap.
